Appeal For The Catholic Church’s Persecution In Italy
On Monday Pope Francis asked for forgiveness for the Catholic church’s persecution of the members of the small evangelical church that is located in Italy, whose leaders was excommunicated and the followers in the group were branded as heretics during the middle ages.
This happened during the first ever papal visit Monday to the Waldensian house of worship in Turin where Pope pleaded for the “un- Christian and the inhuman attitude and the behavior” of the catholic church at large towards the Waldensian church, starting the second day of his two-day visit to Turin with a strong ecumenical message to the all the Christians inclusive and fraternity.
In 12th century was when the Waldensian church was officially founded by Peter Waldo, who was a wealthy merchant from Lyon which is located in France.
Peter gave all his belonging in order to preach the Gospel of simplicity and poverty which in its message condemned papal excesses, this followed their persecution by Rome.
Pope Francis arrived in the meeting together with the youths, in Turin, Italy on Sunday 21st , 2015. Before his arrival at the place, pope had earlier made a prayer in front of the Holy Shroud which is the 14 foot- long linen revered by the burial cloths of Jesus to the display of the Cathedral of Turin.
Later on Monday pope had launched and celebrated Mass for around 30 members who belonged to his family, who summon from Italy’s Piedmont region. “The reunion involved six cousins and their relatives”, said Vatican.
